Death And The Maiden (Hans Baldung Grien)

Death and the Maiden is a common motif in Renaissance art, especially in painting and music. It developed from the Dance of Death, with an added erotic subtext. Hans Baldung Grien (c. 1484 – 1545), depicted it several times in his paintings.

  1. I think the maiden should be allowed to be Death for once. All these naked young things, about to be devoured is just deeply unfair.

  2. In arts, it would be less romantic/poetic. In real life, she is.
